Collect empty aerosols and clean foil in every recycling system
Including foil and aerosols alongside metal food and drink cans is a simple but effective way to expand your recycling service and meet householders' desire to recycle more from home.
They can be collected with other metals in a co-mingled or source separated kerbside collection, often at little additional cost.
By working closely with your waste management contractor, and using clear communication with the public you can overcome any health and safety concerns or contamination issues.
Collecting aerosols and foil from the kerbside offers a "valuable opportunity" for councils to meet residents' demand for the collection of a wider range of materials as well as generating revenue, according to a good practice guide by the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), published in August 2009 (download the guide)
How we can help
The major manufacturers of aluminium foil containers and aerosols, Unilever and the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation (Alupro) have developed this programme to help local authorities to recycle more of the metals in the domestic waste stream.
Between us we have the knowledge, experience and expertise to give you the best advice on including aluminium foil containers and aerosols in your kerbside collections.
